Our Associates:

Susan Coleman, JD., M.P.A.

Susan Coleman is a mediator and trainer of conflict management and intercultural communication based in Garrison, NY. She also serves as the associate training director of the International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University, and adjunct professor of Dispute Resolution at Columbia.

Since 1988, she has taught many business executives, diplomats, health care professional and educators, skills in basic and international negotiations, conflict management, cross-cultural communication, mediation and cross-cultural conflict resolution.

Ms. Coleman's clients include American Express, AT&T, New York City Board of Education, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Colombian Government. Her training materials have been used around the world, and have been translated into Spanish, French, and Macedonian.

Ms. Coleman has degrees from Hofstra and Harvard Universities. She acquired extensive training in negotiations from the Harvard - MIT Program on Negotiations. She has worked as a corporate litigator working on national and international cases. She works and travels worldwide, has lived in Latin America, and speaks Spanish.

Bill MacKellar-Hertan, M.S.

Bill MacKellar-Hertan is a consultant and trainer in organizational change in the U.S. He has more than 20 years of training and organizational development experience.

With a strong Human Resources background, Bill has focused much of his work on the design, development and implementation of organizational change initiatives. The focus of those processes has ranged from strategic planning, to performance development and measurement to diversity and multi-cultural service needs. He has designed and implemented multicultural customer service programs for multiple divisions of a large entertainment and hospitality organization.

He has had the good fortune of working as both an internal and external consultant to a wide variety of organizations. Clients and consultation have included government, non-profit, for-profit and Fortune 100 companies. The majority of Bill's recent experience has focused on diversity in the hospitality and entertainment industries. Bill served as Director of Diversity at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle from 2000 to 2002.

Bill has a Master of Science degree in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida.

Kathy Trickey, M.S.

Kathy Trickey, MSEd, is a business coach, trainer, and consultant on leadership development, organizational development, and global leadership. She brings over 30 years of experience working with individuals, teams and organizations to achieve greater collaboration and better results. She is committed to helping her clients build improved relationships and achieve better and more meaningful outcomes in the workplace, both domestically and around the world. Kathy is a trainer on coaching skills, intercultural communications, succession planning, and innovation management as well as a wide range of leadership topics.

Through use of a number of assessment instruments, such as 360° competency assessment and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator©, her approach motivates people to achieve greater personal and interpersonal awareness and effectiveness.

Her work in the USDA-APHIS Foreign Service taught her well both the challenges that a person working in various cultures encounters and the strategies for successful transition between cultures, whether national or organizational. This perspective helps her provide better service to her clients, be it in the management of a multifunctional team, learning the norms of a new culture, planning to hire the best candidates, developing current employees, starting up a new team, or transitioning a new leader into his or her job.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Kathy has worked with individuals and teams in the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, and Chile and served in the USDA-APHIS Foreign Service. She is the President Elect of the New Mexico Chapter of the International Coach Federation and a lead instructor of the University of New Mexico's Management Development Center.

Kathy has a Master's Degree in Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish, and a postgraduate certificate from Johns Hopkins University in Change Management. A graduate of Corporate Coach University International, she is a Certified Business Coach.

Gary Wederspahn, M.A.

Gary Wederspahn is a consultant, a coach, a trainer, a speaker, and a writer on managing cross-cultural business and multicultural work force issues. He has trained hundreds of public sector and corporate executives, international business travelers, expatriates and their families bound for over 30 countries. His skills include needs assessment, program and materials design, training, coaching, evaluation, expatriate candidate assessment, cross-cultural ethics policy development, and focus group facilitation. He has lived and worked in Switzerland, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and South Africa. He has traveled in thirty-two countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Gary has over seventy articles published in business and trade magazines and is author of the book Intercultural Services: a Worldwide Buyer's Guide and Sourcebook (2000). He has been a speaker at over one hundred conferences of professional organizations and he is a featured expert on various training videos including Doing Business in Mexico.

Gary earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from the University of Washington in 1962, specialized in International Law Studies at the Universidad Libre in Bogotá, Colombia, 1964-66, received a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Stanford University in 1967, and conducted self-directed study at Harvard University from 1978-79.

His native language is English and he is fluent in Spanish.
